Dr. Jess H. Lonner, MD Meaningful clinical advancements and progress in the care of the arthritic knee and the outcomes of knee replacement surgery come only with honest and dedicated research and assessment. For years, I have been involved in the scientific investigation of the various treatment alternatives for arthritis of the knee, and that emphasis continues at the Philadelphia Center for Minimally Invasive Knee Surgery. At the Center, our academic emphasis is on the evaluation of various treatments of knee arthritis, surgical techniques, and knee replacement designs. Scientific investigation is meaningless unless it is shared with the broader orthopaedic community and the public. The cost of rigorous scientific investigation is not nominal - salaried personnel, statistical analysis, study design, compensation of subjects participating in prospective studies, and the costs associated with the production of presentations and scientific publications are just a few of the expenses that are incurred when performing clinical research.
